The classrooms at Via Ponte Vetero 21, in the heart of Milan’s Brera district, filled with conversation, memories and embraces. Current and former students, teachers and friends gathered to celebrate the school, founded in 1986. Some travelled from far away; others returned after many years. Seeing familiar faces again was among the most moving experiences of the evening, revealing how strong the bonds formed at Il Centro remain.
The celebration began with an anniversary aperitivo and featured a special performance by soprano Juliane Lins, who sang two operatic arias for the guests. Her voice brought a moment of shared emotion to an evening dedicated to Italian language and culture.
A moment of thanks followed, recognising everyone who has helped shape the school’s history and identity. The anniversary cake and a celebratory toast then brought everyone together to mark Il Centro’s first forty years.
Ale Puro’s artwork for Il Centro
Artist Ale Puro created a special artwork for the anniversary: a large heart, Milan and two people lifting it together. The image captures the school’s spirit and the value of building something together through encounters between people from different countries and cultures.

The artwork will remain at the school as a lasting reminder of this milestone, welcoming the students who will become part of its future.
More than a school: a worldwide community
The anniversary’s message, “More than a school. A worldwide community”, came to life in the reunions, stories and embraces shared throughout the evening. For generations of students, learning Italian at Il Centro has also meant discovering Milan, sharing experiences and building friendships that last beyond their time in the classroom.
Il Centro thanks Juliane Lins, Ale Puro and everyone who joined the celebration, as well as all those who have helped create the soul of the school over the past forty years.
