Centro Machiavelli

Italian Language School in Florence – Tuscany

Il Centro Machiavelli, founded in Florence’s historic city centre in 1978, is a well-established point of reference for those who wish to study Italian, use the language creatively, and explore the richness of Italian culture.

Our distinguishing feature is the attention we dedicate to each individual student’s motivation and expectations. We foster a friendly and informal atmosphere that naturally encourages communication and meaningful interaction. With a maximum of 10 students per group, we ensure fast and effective learning based on collaboration among participants.

Alongside clear explanations of grammatical rules, we place strong emphasis on communicative activities and language games. Our students come from all over the world, which creates a fully immersive environment where Italian is the only common language. This also requires our teachers to adopt a flexible and creative approach in lesson planning, the use of teaching materials, and the activities proposed.

Il Centro Machiavelli also offers a wide range of cultural activities outside regular class hours. These experiences are designed to help students better understand Italian society, appreciate our artistic and historical heritage, and confidently navigate the city, the country, and our culture.

These activities also play an important social role, creating opportunities for students from different classes to meet, interact, and communicate in Italian—putting their language skills into practice in real-life, authentic contexts.

Where We Are

The school is located in the historic centre of Florence, in the Oltrarno district, in one of the city’s most charming neighbourhoods: San Niccolò. This area, away from mass tourism, offers an authentic Florentine experience.

As you walk through its characteristic streets and narrow alleys, you will encounter places of great historical and artistic interest, as well as numerous artisan workshops and a wide variety of venues—pubs, restaurants, and traditional trattorias—that bring the neighbourhood to life, especially in the evening.

The school is housed in a historic building and features spacious classrooms and a terrace overlooking the river, from which you can admire Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi Gallery, and other iconic landmarks of the city.
