The Roots Tourism<\/a><\/strong> initiative continues to prove itself as one of the most effective ways of strengthening the connection between Italy and communities of Italian origin around the world. This was clearly demonstrated during the recent technical roundtable organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation<\/strong>, which brought together institutions, industry professionals, and stakeholders involved in the development of the ItalEA<\/strong> project.<\/p>\n

According to the figures presented during the meeting, the ItalEA portal recorded more than 160 million views in 2025 alone<\/strong>, while approximately 15,000 people have already joined the ItalEA Card programme<\/strong>, designed for descendants of Italian emigrants who wish to reconnect with their roots through cultural, educational, and travel experiences in Italy.<\/p>\n

ASILS’ Contribution to the Roots Tourism Project<\/h2>\n

ASILS \u2013 the Association of Schools of Italian as a Second Language<\/strong> \u2013 was represented at the roundtable by Dr Francesca Romana Memoli<\/strong>, Vice President of the association.<\/p>\n

During her speech, Dr Memoli highlighted the role played by ASILS member schools in promoting the Italian language worldwide<\/strong> and their contribution to the Roots Tourism initiative.<\/p>\n

Over the past year, schools belonging to the association welcomed more than 30,000 students of Italian<\/strong>, both online and in person, confirming the central role of language as a bridge between Italians living abroad, their descendants, and their country of origin.<\/p>\n

ASILS also presented several initiatives developed specifically for descendants of Italian emigrants, including scholarships, discounted tuition fees, and dedicated educational programmes<\/strong> for those wishing to deepen their knowledge of the Italian language and culture.<\/p>\n

It was emphasized that learning Italian is often the first step in a broader journey of rediscovering family and cultural roots, transforming a simple trip into a meaningful experience of belonging and personal discovery.<\/p>\n

The Issue of Student Visas<\/h2>\n
